Treatment

As soon as you arrive at the clinic, please take off your coat, find a comfortable chair in the waiting room to sit in and someone will be right with you. Your first visit to the clinic will require filling out new patient forms regarding your current health concerns, as well as a few administrative forms to sign. If you have downloaded these forms off the internet and filled them out before your appointment, please make them available to your acupuncturist. You will hear quiet music playing which fosters a quiet, calming, and relaxing environment. Your acupuncturist will take you back to a treatment room and ask you about your primary health concerns. The focus will be on one primary issue or problem areas that you would like to work on with acupuncture. Your acupuncturist will take your pulse and look at your tongue, and then we will begin treatment.

At this point, the acupuncturist will insert fine single-use needles into 1 to 20 acupuncture points on the body. With this style of treatment, most of the points will be located from the elbow to the fingers, or from the knees to the toes. Rarely will needles be placed into the local area where you have symptoms. This style of treatment is very effective for patients, especially for pain relief. Once the needle is in you should feel any of the following: nothing at all, a dull ache, warmth, tingling, or a mild electric sensation.

Patients often retain their needles for 20 to 45 minutes. The “right” amount of time varies from patient to patient, and a complete treatment lasts about an hour from the time you arrive to the time your needles come out.

Once your treatment is complete, the acupuncturist will come in and finish the treatment.  Then they will step out of the room and you will join the acupuncturist in the waiting room again to pay and reschedule.
