What to expect at a community clinic...

As soon as you arrive at the clinic, please sign in with the front desk and let them
know you have arrived. Your first visit to the clinic will require filling out new patient
forms regarding your current health concerns, as well as heath history. You will
then be shown to the community room. Please choose any available chair and
make yourself comfortable. You will hear quiet music playing which fosters a
quiet, calming, and relaxing environment. I will check in with you and we will talk
quietly for a short time about your primary health concerns, focusing any issues or
problem areas that you would like me to work on with acupuncture. I will take your
pulse and look at your tongue, and then we will begin treatment.

At this point, I will insert fine single-use needles into 1 to 20 acupuncture points on
the body. With this style of treatment, most of the points will be located from the
elbow to the fingers, or from the knees to the toes. Rarely will I put needles into
the local area where you have symptoms. I have found this style of treatment to be
very effective for my patients, especially for pain relief. Once the needle is in, I
want you to feel any of the following: nothing at all, a dull ache, warmth, tingling, or
a mild electric sensation.

The style of acupuncture I practice allows patients to keep their needles in from
20 to 40 minutes. The “right” amount of time varies from patient to patient, and a
complete treatment usually lasts about an hour.

Once your treatment is complete, please check out with the front desk and let
them know you are leaving. You may process your payment and schedule your
next appointment with the front desk.
